
Atiq Mosque, the oldest mosque of Shiraz was built by Saffarid Amroleiss which is It is located in the east of Shah Cheragh Shrine. It has been renovated several times.
The north door of this mosque is known as the Imam’s Gate and there is an inscription above it which was written in the Safavid era by Aladdin Johari.
There is a Pearl Arch with two long and beautiful minarets. Behind that is a prayerhall and in the east side of the Pearl arch is a large prayerhall with five iron doors and there is a stone prayer niche ( mehrab) in that.
There is abuilding in the middle of the courtyard of this mosque which is named Dar al-Musaf, or God’s House, or Second Kaaba, or Bait al-Maqdis or the gate of time
and it is made of stone and plaster.
Some inscriptions including Arabic poems were written on the top of this building. This construction was used for Quranic activities .Therefore, this building was built for the scribes and memorizers of the Quran during the reign of Shah Sheikh Abu Ishaq Inju. After that it was restored and now it has been under restoration.
In the past the Atiq Mosque was used as the Haram Mosque ( Masjed al- Haram) and Khodaykhane as the Kaaba for practical training to the pilgrimage of Hajj.
