Islamic school

Khan School, one of the historical places of Shiraz, is located in Ishaq Bey neighborhood on Lotf Ali Khan Zand street.

It was constructed in the 18 century AD by “Allaah Verdi Khan” ,the governor of Shiraz, and his son “Imam Qoli Khan” in Safavid preiod.
This study center was built for Mulla Sadra, the Iranian philosopher.
Mulla Sadra taught philosophy and Islamic sciences in this school for many years, that’s why this school became one of the most important scientific centers of Iran.
Wisdom, jurisprudence, literature, astronomy, arithmetic, geometry, geology, zoology, botany and chemistry were taught in this school.

It is one of the biggest schools of Iran which was decorated with Islamic arts, colorful and beautiful tiles, moqarnas and inscriptions.
The tiles of the ceiling of this school are similar to Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque in Isfahan and it was decorated with Quranic verses.

The numbers of elements which were used in this school are equal to the sacred numbers. For example this school consists of five classrooms equal to the number of five holy figures in Shiite.
It has twelve corridors equal to the
number of twelve Imams.
The architect of this school was Hossein Shamaa.
