Qavam House

Qavam House (Narenjestan-e Ghavam) was built between 1879 and 1886. The Construction of that started by Ali Mohammad Khan Qavam-ol-Molk and was completed by Mirza Mohammad Reza Khan, grandson of the first Qavam-ol-Molk it has an especial architecture and decorated with some persian arts such as paintings, stucco, wood carving, stone carving, mirror work and tile work.

The outside of this historical house was decorated with bas-reliefs of Achaemenid soldiers, lions, tombs, and pictures of fighting mythological creatures which have been inspired by carvings at Persepolis.

It has a beautiful garden with stone ponds, fountains, flowering plants, sour orange trees and palm trees which has a fantastic overlooking from the mirrored porch.
Shiraz has sour orange trees or Narenj trees which create a fragrant atmosphere during spring. There are some citrus trees such as sour orange tree or “Narenj” in the garden of this building that’s why this construction is called Narenjestan which means a place for Narenj trees.
The ceilings of this house has an interesting paintings which are inspired by Victorian-era Europe.

The basement of the building with colorful glasses provided a cool atmosphere in summer of Shiraz.
The southern rooms of Narenjestan were used as the administrative offices and for formal purposes.
The rooms in upper floors were used for guests who were waiting for the Ghavam to accept them.
