Sofreh Aghd
One of the most beautiful parts of traditional wedding ceremony is Sofreh aghd.
The Design of sofreh aghd depends on the taste of bride and groom. It can be intricate or simple.

There are some symbolic items which were used in sofreh aghd including the Holy book Quran,mirror, honey, spices, sugar canes, sweet, coins,fruits, almond, walnut, bread…
Holy book: Symbol of spirituality and faith and God’s blessing for the couple.
It is opened in front of the couple as a symbol of faith and to be faithful during thier life.
(Mirror): Symbol of light and brightness for the married couple and purity.
SHAMDOON (Candles/candelabras) : which are placed next to the mirror and they are the symbole of energy and clarity in the couple’s life together.
KHONCHEH : consists of seven symbolic herbs and spices to protect the couple against the evil eye.
NOON SANGAK (bread)
“noon-eh-sangak” symbole of prosperity
Eggs: symbole of fertility for the couple.
Almond, walnut, hazelnut: symbolize fertility and abundance.
fruits: symbole of joyous future.
SHAHKHEH NABAT (Rock candy): symbolize a sweetened life.
Coins:Symbole of wealth and prosperity for the couple.
Honey: symbole of sweetness for the couple’s life.
Sweets : it is placed on the sofreh aghd. The guests eat sweets after or during the ceremony and it is the symbol of the sweetness of life.
TOOREH GHAND (Sugar Cloth): It is a fabric which is held over the couple’s head during the ceremony.

KALEH GHAND (Sugar cones):
Two sugar cones are rubbed together over the “ghand cloth” by woman while the ghand cloth is held over the couple’s head. It is the symbol of
ESFAND (Wild Rue):
It is an herb which is burned.
Some families and friends can bestow thier gifts such as gold or money to the couple in this cermony or during the wedding ceremony.
The marriage sermon or Khotbeh Aghd
is recited in this ceremony. The marriage sermon consists of some Arabic words and sentences which are recited by Mola or bride and groom and after reciting that, a man and a woman become spouses.
